This small change can make Your Life Radical Better
The advantage of long-term orientation
Making the shift from short-term to long-term thinking can be a game-changer when it comes to improving your quality of life. While it can be tempting to focus on immediate gratification, such as indulging in unhealthy habits or making impulsive decisions, this often comes at the expense of our long-term goals and aspirations.
By adopting a long-term mindset, you can begin to prioritize your future goals and aspirations over short-term pleasures. This means making choices that may not provide immediate gratification but will benefit you in the long run, such as investing in your education, career, or health.
One of the most significant benefits of long-term thinking is that it can help you develop greater resilience and adaptability.
Giving up the short-term means stopping doing the easy thing now, so we all will get a better future tomorrow.
A quote I really like: “When we maximize the short-term we sacrifice the long-term, and we don’t want to do that because the long-term is our life“.
Easy ways to drop the short-term thinking & get started with the long-term mindset
- Giving up the unprepared mindset to prepare just a little like always having a reusable shopping bag with you or always having a cutlery set with you so you can say no to single-use trash.
Quick fix tip: Put a reusable shopping bag & cutlery set in your car, in your go-to jacket or purse/backpack. Also, put a set in your go-to dressy jacket for when you go out to places like Streetfood. You can do the exact same with the 2GO straw, so you have it with you when you go to the cinema etc.
- When you’re in a situation where somebody will offer you a free single-use alternative, you suddenly think about how easy throw-away living is, but remember; You are a Part Of The Solution Society and not the throw-away culture.
You only have to carry used cutlery in a case in your pocket/bag until you get home where you can throw it in the dishwasher. Still very easy, you just have to make a decision to be a Part Of The Solution and remember who you are and what we do. We’re future-oriented and we care about how we leave our planet to our kids.
- The easy choice is to take your car everywhere, but on shorter trips try to take the bike or walk maybe just 1-2 times every 10 trips. It’s not radical action but it’s very do-able, right?
You can optimize for good/fresh weather conditions, do something good for your body and overall health and save up to 20% CO2, or if you are a true champ, you could take even more radical action for your health and the health of our planet win-win!
- Bring your own container to fill up a to-go salad, when you visit the local butcher or a fresh-fish dealer or whatever you need to fill up a container for.
- Don’t relay on supplements, eat healthily and go to the gym instead.
The supplement industry is twice as big as the fitness industry, this says a lot about our society and how bad we are at sacrificing short-term thinking for long-term rewards. But when we optimize our life for the long term, we feel better about ourselves knowing that we are on the right path instead of having a sense of guilt for being a part of the problem.. Try it for yourself and feel the difference!
Start small and let the habit of Long Term Orientation Change Your Life. This is one of those habits to adopt that has a spillover effect on everything in your life. This means a WIN here = a WIN Everywhere!
In summary, while it may be difficult to resist the allure of short-term pleasures, the benefits of adopting a long-term mindset can be truly life-changing. By making choices that align with your long-term goals and aspirations, you can improve your overall quality of life and achieve greater fulfillment and satisfaction in the years to come. So don’t hesitate to start thinking about the future today!
Your kids and yourself will thank you for it♥
